The community of Silver Springs is lucky enough to have three schools that serve the area. Two of which are public schools—Silver Springs School and W.O Mitchell Elementary—and the other a private, Catholic school—Saint Sylvester School. The children of the public schools get to enjoy many wonderful school events including carnivals, organized hot lunches and even the occasional magic show. The schools of the area also try to make parent/teacher communication easier, allowing parents contact their child's teacher using social media as well more traditional methods.
At the heart of the community is the Silver Springs Association, a non-for-profit organization that is responsible for community events and programs. Such activities include swimming lessons, dance lessons and a variety of sports. On top of this, they also help maintain facilities such as the commercial kitchen, botanical gardens and two ice hockey rinks.
Officially known as the Bowmont Natural Area, "the ravine" doesn't just provide the perfect view of Calgary's low-lying areas, it also offers kilometers of walking trails, bike paths and the opportunity to discover Calgary's flora and fauna. Beacon Hill is another which focuses more on the big box shops like Costco, Home Depot, Canada Tire and again a wide variety of other big box stores as well as several smaller shops & services are available.
Schools in NW Calgary are in abundance with many of the communities having their own elementary schools. Junior high and High schools are either located in the community for older areas or within 10 minutes if you’re driving for newer ones. Also located in the NW are The University of Calgary, Sait technical school and the Foothills Medical Centre offering top rated facilities for students wanting to further their educations.
Sports and recreation in the NW is anchored with The Calgary Stampeder's football stadium, Canada Olympic Park (skiing, luge and bobsled tracks, mountain biking and a high level training facility) and the new NW recreation centre, but that’s just the beginning. There’s an indoor soccer dome, tons of outdoor soccer fields, several local fastball and baseball diamonds, a variety of 9 and 18 hole public & private golf courses, all kinds of tennis and basket ball courts, water sports on the Bow River and all kinds of other parks and pathways for walkers & riders to enjoy.
One of NW Calgary's most popular family areas is the Bowness Park and Baker Park combination. Located across the Bow river from each other (connected by two bridges) they offer families areas to enjoy: paddle boating, picnics, wedding, disc golf, biking, walking, fishing, people watching or natural spaces to relax in.
The Calgary International airport is a 15-25 minute drive away and Calgary's Light rail transit system runs to all quadrants of the city from the NW Crowchild corridor including Downtown Calgary. There are train stations conveniently located at Brentwood/Varsity Acres, Dalhousie, Scenic Acres/Arbour Lake and Tuscany/Rocky Ridge/Royal Oak.
