Watermark is newer so there are only a few hundred homes at this point. The community has two main choices of housing. The Market Mall is the largest anchored by the Bay & Sport Chek with all your favourite shops you find in most other major Canadian shopping centres with a few local retailers sprinklered in. Northland Mall is anchored by Walmart & Best Buy and offers shoppers a diverse group of mostly local retailers and services for variety. As well there are several larger and smaller strip malls and big box centres throughout the NW to choose from. A couple of the larger ones are: The Crowfoot Towne Centre which has a huge variety of shopping from major grocery stores to local restaurants, movie theatres, sport and medical facilities as well as wide variety of other shops and services. Beacon Hill is another which focuses more on the big box shops like Costco, Home Depot, Canada Tire and again a wide variety of other big box stores as well as several smaller shops & services are available.
Schools in NW Calgary are in abundance with many of the communities having their own elementary schools. Junior high and High schools are either located in the community for older areas or within 10 minutes if you’re driving for newer ones. Also located in the NW are The University of Calgary, Sait technical school and the Foothills Medical Centre offering top rated facilities for students wanting to further their educations.
Sports and recreation in the NW is anchored with The Calgary Stampeder's football stadium, Canada Olympic Park (skiing, luge and bobsled tracks, mountain biking and a high level training facility) and the new NW recreation centre, but that’s just the beginning. There’s an indoor soccer dome, tons of outdoor soccer fields, several local fastball and baseball diamonds, a variety of 9 and 18 hole public & private golf courses, all kinds of tennis and basket ball courts, water sports on the Bow River and all kinds of other parks and pathways for walkers & riders to enjoy.
One of NW Calgary's most popular family areas is the Bowness Park and Baker Park combination. Located across the Bow river from each other (connected by two bridges) they offer families areas to enjoy: paddle boating, picnics, wedding, disc golf, biking, walking, fishing, people watching or natural spaces to relax in.
The Calgary International airport is a 15-25 minute drive away and Calgary's Light rail transit system runs to all quadrants of the city from the NW Crowchild corridor including Downtown Calgary. There are train stations conveniently located at Brentwood/Varsity Acres, Dalhousie, Scenic Acres/Arbour Lake and Tuscany/Rocky Ridge/Royal Oak. Stoney Trail is the major ring road around Calgary and will soon make all quadrants of the city easily available to NW residents.
NW Calgary offers a little slower pace of life than most other quadrants of the city and residents seem to think that’s just fine.
